| Gibson/Baldwin Moves and Grooves Gibson jams with tennis stars at Paris Indoor Open
Gibson guitars drew the tennis greats at the Paris Indoor Open, which took place October 28 to November 3 at the Bercy Arena in Paris. Andre Agassi, James Blake, Andy Roddick, final contender Lleyton Hewitt from Australia and the winner, Russian Marat Safin were some of players who stopped by the Gibson booth, located in the Players' Lounge, to strum a few chords and relax. Two Epiphone guitars were signed by the net men for charity auctions, including one for Solidarite Sida, an AIDS research foundation. Roddick bought his girlfriend, American pop singer Mandy Moore, an L-200 Emmylou Harris Signature model and she took a few lessons with one of the professional musicians that Gibson staffs for the event. Moore now considers herself a Gibson endorsee. Gibson has supplied recreation for the event for eight years. Scotty Moore celebrates Elvis' posthumous success Has Elvis ever really left the building? BMG Records threw a giant bash to celebrate The King's new No. 1 album, Elv1s: 30 #1 Hits,and his former axeman, Scotty Moore, showed his guitar-toting contemporaries a thing or two. In attendance were over 150 VIPs including Jeff Beck, members of Iron Maiden and Stereophonics. The event took place October 17 at London's Caf de Paris in Leicester Square. BMG has been giving away Gibson and Epiphone Elvis model guitars for promotions in Europe, Asia and the U.S. |

Gibson SG becomes part of The Osbournes saga Guitarist Devon Bronson plays a heritage cherry Gibson SG in Kelly Osbourne's new video "Shut Up!" from her forthcoming album of the same title, to be released November 26 - the same day that "The Osbournes" second season premiers on MTV. Kelly's band will reportedly make appearances throughout the season. In related news, Sharon Osbourne is negotiating a deal with a major studio to do Ozzy's life story, but the self-proclaimed "Prince of F***ing Darkness" will not star in the movie. |
![]() | Sambora takes leap of faith Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora, in an interview for the December issue of Guitar World, says that he's making the jump to Gibson after some 15 years as a Fender endorser. "It just got old, man," he said in the article. "After a while, I guess it got to a point where they were bored with me, too." Sambora has been discussing a signature model with the Gibson Custom, Art and Historic division. Gibson signature artist Lenny Kravitz will release a live DVD, Lenny Live, on November 26. The disc features 17 lives performances, as well as backstage footage and highlights from Lenny's 2002 World Tour, chronicled by photographer-director Mark Seliger. Kravitz and guitarist Craig Ross (the man with the amazing mile-high hair) stopped by Gibson's Custom, Art & Historic division for a spell prior to his Nashville gig, and the cameras were rolling, so check it out . . . |
![]() | Emmylou Harris named to Alabama Hall of Fame Gibson signature artist Emmylou Harris will be honored by her home state when she is inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame Jan. 25, 2003 in Mobile. Harris, who was born in Birmingham, will be inducted alongside R&B singers Clarence Carter and Eddie Floyd, jazz artist and bandleader James Reese Europe, and songwriter Mack Vickery. Gibson Montana introduced the L-200 Emmylou Harris guitar this year. |
![]() | Harris for a landmine-free world In related news, Emmylou Harris organized a tour of five Southern cities in support in support of this years Concerts for a Landmine Free World series. Singer-songwriters Patty Griffin and Bruce Cockburn rounded out the appearances, and Garrison Starr filled in for Mary Chapin Carpenter, who had had to cancel her appearances because of back problems. The tour kicked off Nov. 6 in Raleigh, N.C., and also visited Asheville, N.C.; Atlanta; Knoxville, Tenn.; and Birmingham, Ala. The tour benefits programs of Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF), which assists civilian victims of war and conflict in foreign countries by providing physical and social rehabilitation services. |

| Achtung! Look for giant Les Paul in German guitar shops German distributor M&T is offering Gibson Europa dealers a giant 9-foot long Les Paul replica for in-store promotions. The polyester guitar weighs 110 pounds and is pictured on the back of a replica of the new Volkswagen Beetle. English comedy features Les Paul Standard Popular British comedian Harry Enfield plays the character of aging rock star "Gary Bloke" in a new television show on BBC 1 called Celeb. "Gary" was featured holding a Les Paul Standard in a photo that ran in the Evening Standard,London's evening newspaper. Gibson supplied all the instruments to the show including Gibson and Epiphone guitars, a Baldwin piano and various set dressings. The show debuted in August and is expected to be the fall season hit. |

Gibson Guitars in "Crossing Jordan" Watch for Jill Hennessey, one of the stars of television show "Crossing Jordan," to play a variety of Gibson acoustic guitars over the course of several episodes this season. Hennessey plays medical examiner Jordan Cavanaugh on the hit series. Steve Howe Signature ES-175 makes the rounds with Rod Stewart Jazz guitarist Ben Butler played a series of television appearances recently with Gibson USA's Steve Howe Signature ES-175, in support of Rod Stewart's new album It Had to Be You . . . The Great American Songbook, an album of pop standards by George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter and others. The album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart its first week, the highest chart debut for Stewart in 15 years. Look for Rod to do an installment of A&E's show "In Concert" on Dec. 6, and the band to perform on "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2003." Marty Raybon forges relationship with Gibson Montana Artist Marty Raybon, formerly with successful country band Shenandoah, was presented with a rosewood J-45 during the International Bluegrass Music Association's Trade Show and Convention in Louisville, Ky., to celebrate his new relationship with the Gibson Montana division. Raybon plans to release a bluegrass album in March 2003 on independent label Doobie Shea Records. Sheryl Crow rocks out with the Stones Gibson signature artist Sheryl Crow did several dates with the Rolling Stones recently, finishing up Thursday, Nov. 14 in San Diego at the Sports Arena. Crow and band will head to New York for a handful of television appearances in December, including "Christmas in Rockefeller Center" on December 4; "Late Night With Conan O'Brien" on December 10; and "Good Morning America" on December 11. |
